rustic oriental decor

Let me tell you a little secret… I didn’t know what exactly is a kilim until a couple of days ago when I came across this beautiful spread featuring kilims. And you know what the fun part is, I’m pretty sure that there’s a kilim rug in one of my grandma’s guest rooms in the countryside. So much to learn, so little time…
For those who are clueless like I was not so long ago, kilims are flat tapestry-woven carpets or rugs produced from the Balkans to Pakistan.
Though, I’m pretty sure that not all of them are actually produced from the Balkans to Pakistan, but have the oriental motifs to be considered a kilim. Ohh well, you get the point.
Still, I find them fascinating and perfect for rustic and/or oriental style decorating.
Take for example this set of photos featuring kilim rugs, pillows and I think I’m spotting a throw too, not sure though, it’s very homey and rustic but in the same time oriental. I still add a wood bespoke piece, like this one, from Chris Sharp Cabinets. Besides the ethnic rugs & co, part of the oriental feel is due  to the arched windows, plus the combo of woven details and ceramic pots.
Also, I’m pretty sure I featured a paired of flats kilim inspired in one of the style essentials posts.
Are you a fan of kilims?
