Your home should never be cleaner than when you’re about to sell it. Every part of your home needs to sparkle. From the ceilings to the baseboards, there shouldn’t be any dust or dirt.
A dirty home is going to be a major turn off for any buyer.
- Patch and Repair
While you’re staging your home, take this time to fix up any of the small nicks, holes, and other impurities that might give the buyer the impression of neglect. Get a foam eraser pad and clean up any scuffs that are on the walls. Then caulk and spackle anything that looks like it needs to be patched.
You might have to touch some things up with paint as well. You want the buyer to know that you’ve maintained the property and that they’ll be buying a home that was well taken care of.

If you can spare the time and money, you should try to make your home as neutral as possible. While having brightly colored walls might help you express your personality, it could end up quickly sending buyers packing.
As we mentioned before, you want to make a blank canvas for the buyer to imagine their own personal styles. Try to paint over any showy colors with white and gray.
- Keep It Fresh
You don’t want to have too many extraneous things to clutter up your home and distract the buyer. But you can benefit greatly from having some well-placed flowers and plants to help add freshness to the home.
Space out your flowers so it doesn’t seem like you’re cluttering up a certain area. Place some small succulents in the living room and a potted plant on your dining table.
